About GMBC 2017

It is with great regret that I must announce that the Grizedale Mountain Bike challenge has been cancelled for 2107.

As I’m sure you can imagine, this has been a very difficult decision to make.  The reason for this decision is due to the lack of entries; it costs a good deal of money to run a safe and exciting event, and unfortunately the numbers just haven’t added up this year.

Thank you very much for your interest in the event, and please accept our sincere apologies.

If you have entered you will receive a full refund within the next 3-5 working days.

Don’t forget there is always amazing riding in the forest, and at the Grizedale Mountain Bike shop we are always happy to point you in the way of the best riding, depending on what you want to achieve!

We wish you all the best.

Katie and the rest of the GMBC team.

For those that hadn’t booked early, or had booked and need a reminder, this is what you will be missing!…..

After a successful resurrection of the GMBC in 2016, we are pleased to announce that we will be running the GMBC again on the 9th September 2017.

The route will consist of a gruelling 32 miles with 4200ft of climbing, but to go with all the effort there are also some amazing descents, using many of Grizedale’s most interesting bridleways.  That means that it is an event not to be missed, there are even some bits that can only be ridden during this event!

Is the 32 miles and 4200ft putting you off?  NEW FOR 2017 – GMBC Short course.  This will be approximately 22 miles and the decision can be made at the junction with the main ride.  This makes deciding to attempt this wonderful challenge even more exciting!

Also New for 2017 – we have a specific Electric Bike category.  We welcome electric bikes, and all those wishing to undertake the challenge on them.  Electric bikes will set off at 9.30am, 30 min before the rest of the riders, so there is no worries about e-bikes overtaking on big climbs!

Mobile Mechanic!  This year we will have a roaming mobile mechanic to help with any mechanicals.  Simply call HQ at the Grizedale centre, or get to your nearest Marshal who will then be able to contact him, and hopefully get you back riding!

Adding to the event will be camping on the Friday and Saturday nights, as well as food, beer, and music on the Saturday.

Plus we are pleased to say that the whole event is sponsored by Madison Clothing for a second year.  As well as our very kind neighbours GO APE who are offering 10% off Go Ape on the Friday 8th, Sunday 10th and Monday 11th.  So make sure you book your families in for a fabulous discount!

See you on the 9th September 2017.
