ABOUT GMBC

Welcome to The North Face Grizedale Mountain Bike Challenge

Grizedale Mountain Bike Challenge is on of the longest running Mountain Bike Endurance Events in Northern England.

The event format is simple. You start; follow the bright orange arrows around one big loop of Grizedale and when you see the finish line you're done, literally sometimes! The distance is approximately 40 miles. This is to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of 'The North Face'; and certain members of the GMBC organising committee!

We don't publish a map as we use some footpaths etc which are NOT open to mountain bikes after the event. Sorry if this is disappointing but you won't need a map on the day as the route is well waymarked and marshalled. If you require more info a map will be displayed in registration.

If you record the route to a GPS during the event please be reminded that the permission to use footpaths is kindly given by landowners for the day of GMBC only. If you ride them at any other time you are breaking the law!

Finally; this event is for Mountain Bikes with 26" wheels, '29ers' or even "69ers'. Anybody found on 'cross bikes' or 'hybrids' will not be allowed to start for safety reasons as the course covers some challenging terrain.

As organisers we take nothing out of the event for ourselves. All sponsorship money is ploughed into the event to make it bigger and better than the last. Competitor's entry fees are split between the event's cost and our two chosen charities, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Eden Valley Hospice Children's Ward. We are all mountain bikers and believe it or not we all do it because we love the sport!

Good luck to everyone taking part!
